The ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 is a tri-band mesh Wi-Fi system that can support up to six to nine nodes, including the primary node, although ASUS recommends not using more than five. The system also supports Ethernet backhaul, which provides better performance by avoiding any Wi-Fi radio traffic for the backhaul. The devices are essentially the same hardware, and users can configure one as the router and the other as nodes. Regarding compatibility with other devices, the ZenWiFi ET8 is comparable to the ASUS ROG Rapture Wi-Fi 6E, which uses the same app to control and monitor. Special characters, including spaces and capital letters, are allowed in SSIDs. However, users must note that 6GHz wireless has a shorter range, and the speed degrades when the signal passes through walls, floors, and furniture faster than the lower frequencies degrade. Therefore, using a wireless 6GHz backhaul may not achieve the best speed if the Wi-Fi routers/APs are separated by walls, floors, etc. Finally, the ZenWiFi ET8 does not provide any home kit capabilities, But it allows Ethernet communication between devices, including home kit devices.
